Reflections on Open Door Poetry Series

Steve Abee hosts a series at Battery Books and Music that is very much different than some of the other readings I have attended over the years.  In this space the word is sacred, delivered from a lectern with the faded outline of a removed cross.  I was one of three featured artists on August 30th, and having the opportunity to answer questions about the poems I read was enlightening.  Outside of a workshop, I’ve never discussed the poems I have written.  The exchange in the room was synergetic.  I shared as much about my process as I learned how the people in the room received my poetry.  Having the opportunity to participate in the same line of questioning with the other features, Terry Robinson and Armon Kinard, was truly inspiring.  I look forward to returning to Battery Books.
